What makes a server yours is the stack it runs: an artifact build, a server.cfg, a framework and a pile of resources.
Roleplay servers run on frameworks — ESX and QBCore, along with its Qbox continuation — that define characters, jobs, inventories and the in-game economy. Those frameworks lean on a MySQL/MariaDB database to store player characters, balances and world state, which is why the database is as important as the game process itself. On top of the framework sit the resources that make each city distinct: jobs, an MDT, a phone, housing, vehicle shops and asset streaming that pushes custom cars, clothing and map objects to clients.
All of that is processed server-side every tick, and much of it runs on a small number of threads rather than spreading across many cores. Start with your license key. Generate a free server key from the cfx.re Keymaster portal on your own account and add it to server.cfg — this registers the server with the platform, enables your server-list listing and gives you the cfx code players connect with. Then choose your server artifact: the build version you run affects compatibility with frameworks and resources, so pick a recommended build and keep note of it when you update.
Next, lay down your framework. Install ESX or QBCore/Qbox into your resources folder, create the database and import its schema into the bundled MySQL/MariaDB instance, and wire the connection string into server.cfg. Add resources one at a time and check each starts cleanly in the txAdmin console before adding the next — a single broken dependency can stop the whole stack from loading. Set your slot count to match the resource load you are actually running rather than the maximum you could set.
Finally, keep it healthy. Schedule automatic restarts in txAdmin or as a panel task to clear resource leaks and apply updates, back up both your files and the database on a schedule, and configure asset streaming for the custom cars, clothing and map objects your city uses.
