Garry's Mod is whatever your community builds — a DarkRP city, a TTT rotation, a Prop Hunt server or a physics-heavy sandbox — and all of it runs on the Source engine, which leans hard on single-thread CPU speed. DedicatedMC runs GMod on high-clock AMD Ryzen cores so a busy server full of props, players and scripted addons stays smooth. Manage Steam Workshop collections, point DarkRP at a real MySQL database, serve custom maps over FastDL for fast joins, moderate live over RCON, and stay online behind enterprise DDoS protection.
Garry's Mod is a Source-engine sandbox that has become a platform for dozens of community gamemodes. The same server can run DarkRP economy roleplay, Trouble in Terrorist Town, Prop Hunt, plain Sandbox building or Murder — the gamemode is a config setting plus the addons that back it, so you pick the experience and switch it when your community wants something new. That flexibility is the whole appeal, and it is why no two GMod servers look alike.
Content comes from the Steam Workshop, and the tidy way to manage it is a Workshop collection: gather the addons your server needs into one collection, point the server at its ID, and everything loads together and updates in one place. For a DarkRP server, persistence matters — player money, jobs and inventories should survive restarts and perform well under load — so you point DarkRP and compatible addons at a MySQL/MariaDB database rather than flat files. That database is included, and it is what keeps a real economy consistent as your server grows.
The thing that decides how much a GMod server can handle is the engine underneath it. Source runs most of its per-tick game logic and physics on a single thread, so per-core clock speed is the main limit on how many props, players and scripted addons a server can carry before it lags. We run Garry's Mod on high-clock AMD Ryzen cores with NVMe storage so a prop-heavy sandbox or a heavily scripted DarkRP city stays responsive under a full population.
Source runs its physics and game logic largely on one thread, so we host GMod on high-frequency Ryzen cores that keep a prop-heavy, addon-heavy server smooth under load.
Point the server at a Workshop collection ID to load your entire addon set at once and keep it updated in one place — or mount specific addon IDs directly.
A bundled MySQL/MariaDB database gives DarkRP and compatible addons persistent, performant storage for money, jobs and inventories, with scheduled backups to protect it.
Serve custom maps and models over FastDL for fast joins, moderate live over RCON, and stay online behind enterprise DDoS filtering with 24/7 Discord support.
Start by choosing your gamemode and map. Set the gamemode in your server config — DarkRP, TTT, Prop Hunt, Sandbox or Murder — pick a starting map that suits it, and set your slot count to match how demanding that gamemode is rather than the maximum you could run. A prop-heavy sandbox and a light Prop Hunt server want very different slot counts for the same smoothness.
Next, manage your addons. Build a Steam Workshop collection with everything your gamemode needs and point the server at the collection ID so it all loads together, then add or remove addons by editing the collection. If you are running DarkRP or another database-backed addon, create the database in the bundled MySQL/MariaDB instance and configure the addon to use it, so money, jobs and inventories persist across restarts.
Finally, sort out downloads and administration. For custom maps and models that are not on the Workshop, set sv_downloadurl to a FastDL host so clients pull them over HTTP and join quickly. Add an admin addon such as ULX for in-game moderation, keep RCON handy for live server commands, and schedule backups of both your files and the database. Moving from another host? Our importer brings your addons and configs across so you are not rebuilding by hand.
I've loved this service since I left my old host. I never found a decent provider until this one. They have amazing support and have never let me down, even when I've had serious issues. Their plans are very affordable and for the quality you get I don't think anything beats it. I've used their service for around 4 years now and will continue to be a loyal customer.
Service and customer support? Fantastic. I've never had a single issue with my server they haven't been able to help with. The servers are always running well and their customer support is equally as good — quick, helpful, patient and most importantly very transparent. If there are any issues, they will most definitely be there to help you.
Best company hands down. Their support team is friendly, fast, and incredibly helpful — especially through Discord where you can easily open a ticket. They offer features that some competitors charge extra for, and they genuinely help with server issues without any hassle.
Been with DedicatedMC for just under a year now and have yet to have an issue. I've never had problems with downtime or their support — it's by far the best in the space. They reply almost instantly and are always happy to help.
Switching hosts is a pain — so we handle it for you. Share your SFTP details and we'll move everything across at no extra cost.
Join our Discord and open a migration support ticket. Tell us where you're hosted and what you need moved.
Share your current host's SFTP or FTP credentials. We'll zip your files and transfer everything across — worlds, plugins, configs.
We'll notify you once migration is complete. Log in, verify everything looks right, and you're good to go.
Garry's Mod is a Source sandbox, so the gamemode is entirely up to you. The popular ones are DarkRP for economy roleplay, Trouble in Terrorist Town (TTT) for social deduction, Prop Hunt for hide-and-seek, plain Sandbox for building, and Murder. You set the gamemode in your server config and load the matching addons, and you can switch gamemodes by changing that setting and restarting.
GMod content lives on the Steam Workshop, and the cleanest way to manage it is a Workshop collection — you gather the addons you want into one collection and point the server at its ID, and it loads everything in the list. That keeps your addon set in one place and makes updates easy. You can also mount specific addon IDs directly. Clients download the Workshop content they need when they connect.
DarkRP can store player money, jobs and data in a database, and for anything beyond a small server you will want MySQL rather than flat files so the economy is persistent and performs well. A MySQL/MariaDB database is included, so you can point DarkRP and other addons that support it — such as inventory, level and admin systems — at a real database for reliable, persistent storage.
Garry's Mod servers often use custom maps, models and materials, and by default clients download those over a slow in-game transfer that can leave players staring at a loading screen. FastDL serves that content from a web host over HTTP instead, using sv_downloadurl, so players join far faster. Workshop content is handled by Steam, but for custom files served directly, FastDL is what keeps join times short.
Yes. RCON lets you run server commands, change the map or gamemode, and manage players live while the server is running, from the console or an external RCON tool. Most communities also run an admin addon such as ULX or a modern equivalent on top for in-game moderation, and those work alongside RCON.
Garry's Mod slot counts vary by gamemode — a DarkRP city or a busy TTT server commonly runs anywhere from 32 up to 64 or more slots. The real limiter is how much your addons, props and physics simulation cost per player, since Source runs much of that on a single thread. A prop-heavy sandbox or a heavily scripted DarkRP server is more demanding per slot than a light Prop Hunt server, so size slots to your gamemode.
Garry's Mod runs on the Source engine, which processes most of its per-tick game logic and physics on a single thread. That makes per-core clock speed the main factor in how many props, players and scripted addons a server can handle before it starts to lag. We run GMod on high-clock AMD Ryzen cores so a busy DarkRP city or a physics-heavy sandbox stays smooth under load.
